Getting A Little Too Close to Home

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

Dr. Samantha Delessio had had a very busy day so far that day. There was a new file in her hand no sooner then she had put it down. She walked into the waiting room to pick up her next patient when she spotted a very familiar face in one of the chairs, and he didn't look good at all. "Caleb?" Samantha asked gently, walking over to her baby brother.

"Hey Sis." said Caleb softly before he sneezed loudly.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"C'mon, let's get you to the back little brother," Samantha said. She placed Caleb's hand on the side of her walker, hoping it would help support him as they walked back. "Why didn't you call me before you came in, I woulda got you right away had I known."

Caleb coughed "Because it proably just a cold." he said.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"You still should have called me Cay," Samantha said, using the nickname she'd given her brother as a child. She led him into a room and closed the door.

[Caleb James]

Caleb coughed again as he sat down on the bed.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"Alright, talk to me, what's bugging you?" Samantha asked. "and don't you dare try to hide anything, I know you too well for that."

[Caleb James]

Caleb sighed "Well i started sneezing and coughing last night and today i kept throwing up and i have a rash."

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

Samantha sighed. She knew those symptoms all too well. She nodded and grabbed the vital monitoring deck that stood in the corner of the room. She placed the blood pressure cuff on Caleb's arm and the pulse oximeter on his finger before grabbing the thermometer. "Open up," Samantha instructed. She was trying to stay as professional as possible, if she didn't they would take her off Caleb's case and she knew her brother well enough to know that would not be a good thing.

Caleb looked at her confused but he opened his mouth for her.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

Samantha placed the thermometer in her brother's mouth. "Keep that under your tongue," she told him firmly. She couldn't count the number of times he's spit out a thermometer when they were kids.

Caleb sighed but he kept the thermometer in his mouth.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

Samantha sighed and ran a hand over her younger brother's short brown hair. There wasn't even a whole year between the two of them, but she'd always felt the need to protect him.

Caleb looked at his sister he knew she was worried about something but he didn't know what.

When the machine beeping knocked Samantha out of her thoughts, she recorded the results and started unhooking Caleb from the machine.

"So whats wrong Samantha and don't say nothing i know you better then that." Caleb said.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

She knew he was serious when he used her full first name. To Caleb, she had always been Sammy, or Sammy Jay nothing else. "I think I know what's up, but I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions just yet," Samantha said.

Caleb sighed and asked "What is it Sammy?"

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"There's a pretty nasty virus going around, really really nasty," Samantha said. She walked over to the whiteboard on the wall and wrote the usual stuff on it. The date, the patient's name and her own, so people would know she had already taken the case. Next to it she wrote a list of all the symptoms to the virus, placing a red star next to the ones Caleb was already experiencing. "I'm going to have you admitted," Samantha said. She knew her brother wasn't going to like that. "but I want you to listen to me," she said. "I and only I will be taking care of you."

Caleb took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down "Do you have to?" he asked.

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"You know I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to Cay," Samantha said. "I know you don't like it here, but I'm trying to do what's best for you." she paused and took her brother's hands in her own, leaning against the back of her walker for support. "I'm just trying to take care of you."

Caleb sighed and nodded "I know Sammy."

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

Samantha flashed her brother a warm smile. "C'mon, you trust your big sister, don't you?"

Caleb gave her a small smile "Yeah i trust you Sammy."

[Dr. Samantha Delessio]

"Good," Samantha said. "Why don't you go ahead and get changed into the gown while I go take your name and add it to my list?" Samantha asked. And grab the IV supplies she thought, but she wasn't gonna tell him that.
